New Documentary (They really are watching Us)

  The CIA's World Fact Book
AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISM
(Synopsis) Determined to find the law that requires Americans to pay income tax, Aaron Russo (THE ROSE, TRADING PLACES) sets out on a journey. Neither left- nor right-wing, this startling examination exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America. Through interviews with US Congressmen, a former IRS Commissioner, former IRS and FBI agents, tax attorneys and authors, Russo connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, voter fraud, the national identity card (becoming law in May 2008) and the implementation of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to track citizens. A striking case about the evolving police state in America.

What's New: The Transnational issues category now has a “Trafficking in Persons” entry. Human trafficking connotes modern-day slavery and this important new field will include information on the most egregious countries (Tier 2 Watch List and Tier 3) as listed in the US State Department's annual report.

New Website from National Geographic

The Media That Matters Film Festival

www.MyWonderfulWorld.org
A new National Geographic-Roper survey shows half of young Americans can't locate world powers like Japan and India. Twenty percent can't even find the Pacific Ocean. Without geography, our children aren't ready for the world.

That's one of the reasons a National Geographic-led campaign — backed by a coalition of major national partners — to expand geographic learning in school, at home, and in the community. They want to give our kids the power of global knowledge, and provide ways for families to get involved.

This Land
The guys at JibJab (Gregg and Evan Spiridellis) have created yet another animation masterpiece. Throughout a cleverly reworded version of Woody Guthrie's "This Land", George Bush and John Kerry take turns heaping insults on one another. The visuals are silly and way over the top, which makes this piece both timely AND fun. Flash / 3mb Stream

The Meatrix
Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus meet the gang at the Animal Farm! This Flash piece tells the story of the Meat Industry in a way we don't think you'll soon forget. Take the pill...

A MAD COW
This is one verbally offensive, very Mad Cow! My ears still hurt. I don't know if I can look at a steak again. (I'll try the salmon next time.)

White America Eminem Video
This is one of the most provocative music videos I think I've ever seen. Cudos to that talented team over at GNN who put this together. Directed by Stephen Marshall. (Eminem, you are the premiere satirist of the entertainment business. Keep rapping.)

"Come Mothers and Fathers throughout the land, and don't criticize what you can't understand. Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command, your old road is rapidly aging. Please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand, for the times they are a changing." Bob Dylan
