| Day 22: Walsh's Pyramid October 13, 2005 This is my last day in Australia. I decided to take one more hike, on the slim chance that I'd get to see at least one snake in the wild. Or at the very least, go tumbling down in flames trying. So I hired a tour guide to take me up to the peak on Walsh's Pyramid, which is not too far from the Wooroonooran Rainforest I had been to yesterday, but looks much dryer and rugged than the rainforest. This mountain is a steep climb of about 4500 feet, and looks like a big pyramid high over the valley of suger cane farms and small townships. As you can see from this shot below, I'm looking pretty relaxed after 22 days in Australia, and Drew was the perfect woman to accompany this New Yorker on his quest for the answer at the top of the mountain. 44 years old, digs snakes, looking great in her floppy hat and colorful braids, and proof that even a sophisticated rainforest hippy can teach me a thing or two about enjoying life. | | |
