Day 22: Walsh's Pyramid
October 13, 2005

This is my last day in Australia. I decided to take one more hike, on the slim chance that I'd get to see at least one snake in the wild. Or at the very least, go tumbling down in flames trying. So I hired a tour guide to take me up to the peak on Walsh's Pyramid, which is not too far from the Wooroonooran Rainforest I had been to yesterday, but looks much dryer and rugged than the rainforest. This mountain is a steep climb of about 4500 feet, and looks like a big pyramid high over the valley of suger cane farms and small townships. As you can see from this shot below, I'm looking pretty relaxed after 22 days in Australia, and Drew was the perfect woman to accompany this New Yorker on his quest for the answer at the top of the mountain. 44 years old, digs snakes, looking great in her floppy hat and colorful braids, and proof that even a sophisticated rainforest hippy can teach me a thing or two about enjoying life.

Well, I've made it up to the peak.
And there aren't really any answers here.

At least there are more lizards to catch here. I won't bore you with all of those pictures. Suffice to say that I'll always enjoy this peculiar hobby of mine.

After our 5 hour hike, Drew took me to the beautiful, Benhera Creek, where we swam and relaxed and chatted for an hour before ending the tour. Cockatoos were flying overhead, the water was clear and cool, and there were no crocodiles or poisonous snakes to end my trip on a bad note. Drew dropped me off at my hotel in time to get my laundry done, pack my bags, and head out to the marina where I started my journey for one last Goodbye Video...
